There’s a day for giving thanks, followed by two days for getting deals, so why not a day for giving back?
That is the question asked by the #GivingTuesday movement.
As a member of the Giving Institute, JGA is encouraging our clients and friends to join us in promoting this important day of charity to your constituents.
On Tuesday, November 27, 2012, charities, families, businesses and individuals are coming together to transform the way people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season.
#GivingTuesday™ is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.
The idea was originally created by New York’s 92nd Street Y, but it has since gathered an impressive array of national partners and influencers including the United Nations Foundation, Microsoft, Do Something, and the CASE Foundation (and that's just a handful of the many, many partners signed up so far!).
What can you do?
Help promote #GivingTuesday, through social media and on your own website and communications. There are tools to help you spread the word on the official #GivingTuesday website.
Sign up to be a partner with #GivingTuesday online at and plan a special #GivingTuesday initiative such as a special donation match or challenge effort. There are numerous examples of how other nonprofits are celebrating #GivingTuesday on the website as well.
And most importantly, give. Give back to your own community by answering the call of one of the participating charities or one of your own choosing on this special day of sharing.
